Introducing ScreenshotEdits for Web & Windows

March 20, 2026

ScreenshotEdits started as a Mac app. A simple idea: paste a screenshot, add a gradient background, export something that looks good. It worked. People used it. Then the emails started.

"Is there a web version?" "Does this work on Windows?" "I love the Mac app but my team is on PCs."

Fair enough. We built both.

Why a web version?

Not everyone wants to install an app to beautify a screenshot. Sometimes you're on a work laptop where you can't install software. Sometimes you're on a Chromebook. Sometimes you just want to paste a screenshot, make it look good, and move on with your day. The web app handles all of that. Open a browser tab, paste, beautify, export. Done.

Why Windows?

About 76% of desktop users are on Windows. We were ignoring three out of four potential users. That felt wrong. The Windows app is a real native application, not a wrapped web view. It's fast, it's light (under 20MB), and it runs fully offline. Same beautification engine, same gradient library, same export quality.

One thing the Windows version doesn't have yet: built-in screen capture and OCR. Those are coming. For now, use Win+Shift+S to capture and paste into the app. It's two extra keystrokes. Not ideal, but it works.

What's included

Everything you'd expect from the Mac app, minus OCR (Windows) and built-in capture (Windows & web).

30+ gradient backgrounds
Adjustable shadows
Rounded corners
Smart padding
Blur & pixelate
Text & arrows
Crop & resize
Export at 1x/2x/3x
Copy to clipboard
PNG & JPEG export

Web vs desktop — quick comparison

The web app is the easiest way to try ScreenshotEdits. The desktop app is the most powerful. Here's the breakdown.

What's coming next

We're a small team (okay, it's mostly me), so I won't promise dates. But here's what I'm working on:

OCR on Windows

Text extraction from screenshots. The Mac version already has this. Windows is next.

Built-in capture on Windows

So you don't need Win+Shift+S as a separate step. One app for capture + beautify + export.

Custom gradient creator

Pick your own colors instead of choosing from presets. The most-requested feature by a mile.

Browser extension

Right-click any image on a webpage, open in ScreenshotEdits, beautify, done. Still in the thinking stage.

ScreenshotEdits started because I was annoyed at how bad my screenshots looked in blog posts and tweets. Plain white rectangles with no context. I built the Mac app for myself, and it turns out other people had the same annoyance. Now it works everywhere. If you've been waiting for a web or Windows version — it's here. Go make your screenshots look good.
